A firm NO is always better than a wishy-washy response. Though many can’t take rejection gracefully, I personally think it’s better when you know where you stand. At least you could plan what your next move would be, instead of waiting for something that’s not likely to happen all because you didn’t get a clear picture of the situation you’re in.
